Joe is Policy Manager for Fire Risk Assessor competency and capacity in Fire Safety Unit, Home Office. He has been working across government and with industry partners to professionalise the fire risk assessor sector and implement legislation requiring competence. Section 156, subsection 4 of the Building Safety Act (BSA) 2022 will place a statutory duty on Responsible Persons not to appoint someone to assist them in making or reviewing a fire risk assessment unless that person is competent. I will update on the progress government and industry have made in improving fire risk assessor competency and capacity, including the development of an agreed standard and moving the sector into the Conformity Assessment Model.
