Dr Robert Docherty

Dr Bob Docherty was a career firefighter and served in the UK fire and rescue service for over 33 years.   He was the first serving officer in the British Fire Service to be awarded a PhD for his research into stress and coping in firefighters.  In 2001 he was awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal for distinguished service. 

He was heavily involved in the IFE and was their International President in 1999-2000.  He was part of the IFE team that set up the fire engineering degree programme at University of Central Lancashire.

Bob, with a team of colleagues, was instrumental in resetting the Institute of Fire Safety Managers in 2006 where he has been the Secretary General, Chairman and now President of the Institute.

Bob is also a Chartered Engineer and in 2001 he started his own successful consultancy, Flamerisk Safety Solutions Ltd. providing a number of fire related services including fire risk assessments and fire engineering solutions throughout the UK and abroad. 

Bob is in the final year as President of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers.
