For most fire protection companies, the sheer volume of managing different tasks, staff, contractors, and reports means they barely keep their heads above water. For most property owners, the responsibility to maintain compliance is complex, to say the least. For tenants, the assumption that they are sleeping in a safe and compliant building is a given. Driven by a mission to make all buildings safer, Uptick provides software to fire protection companies to run more efficient businesses. In turn, property owners can get real-time insights to the compliance of their buildings.

Construction product testing and certification is about satisfying stakeholders that products will perform as they were designed to and in the environments that they were expected to operate in. Dame Judith Hackitt's Independent Review identified weaknesses in the system for construction product testing. This presentation explains how the Construction Products Regulation, UKCA/CE marking and manufacturer's Declarations of Performance can be used to address many of the shortcomings identified.

Pressurization is the only smoke control system that is acceptable to be used to discount a stair provision in Approved Document B and can be used to replace almost any prescribed solution for protecting staircases, for example Natural AOV's, Natural Shaft Systems or Mechanical Shafts systems, often known as MSVS. BS 9991 is currently being updated, but is likely to recommend pressurization for single stair residential building up to 30m, the alternative being two stair systems. Pressurization has been around for many years and is regarded as being the best possible smoke control strategy to keep stairs clear of smoke so why hasn't it been more popular? This presentation will discuss this and outline the requirements for pressurization systems, their limitations and what implications and benefits they can bring when introduced into building design.
