120kWh EV Battery Pack Live Fire Test v EQUINOX HP Suppression System
Watch how a fully developed lithium-ion fire is rapidly controlled,
stabilised, and prevented from re-igniting under real test conditions.
This video shows a live fire test of a ~120 kWh EV lithium-ion battery
pack undergoing a fully developed thermal runaway event, and its
suppression using the EQUINOX-HP mist system.
The pack was deliberately subjected to a hard short, triggering
immediate thermal runaway, arc flash, and sustained flame prior to
system activation. The suppression system was activated approximately 12
seconds after initiation, allowing the event to develop under realistic
worst-case conditions.
EQUINOX-HP uses water enhanced with an NFPA 18A micelle-forming fire
suppression agent, delivering combined cooling, vapour encapsulation,
and combustion suppression.
Key outcomes demonstrated in this test:
Rapid suppression of a fully developed battery fire
Flame extinguishment within approximately one minute
Controlled response to ongoing cell venting and delayed energy release
No re-ignition at any point following suppression, including over
extended observation
Near-field thermal containment at approximately 300 mm from the pack
The test highlights the difference between conventional extinguishment
and true thermal event stabilisation in lithium-ion systems.
EQUINOX-HP is designed to address the full lifecycle of battery fire
events — from initial suppression through to long-term stabilisation —
making it suitable for EV, BESS, and high-risk lithium-ion environments.
