The test is conducted in a Steiner Tunnel, where the material is exposed to flame and the rate of flame spread and smoke development are measured. Results are expressed as a Flame Spread Index (FSI) and Smoke Developed Index (SDI), which are used to classify materials into Class A, B, or C for regulatory and safety purposes.
