ASTM E84/UL 723 is a reaction-to-fire test used to obtain comparative surface burning behaviour of exposed building material surfaces, such as walls and ceilings. The test is conducted in the Steiner Tunnel apparatus and measures the response of materials or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions. The final results obtained are a Flame Spread Index (FSI) and Smoke Developed Index (SDI), used to classify the test specimen as a Class A, B, or C material.

Types of products that can be tested:
Building products such as wallpaper, paint systems, acoustic boards and coverings, wood products, sealant, adhesive, insulation materials, and more. They can be tested alone, or as a system /assembly.
