Testing the sensors sensitivity and alarm outputs can be done in two ways. One is by creating an actual controlled fire in front of the detector, but as this is most of the time not possible, the manufactures have created an explosion proof testing device, the flame simulator.
The flame simulator is designed to activate the flame detectors sensors and trigger the detector as if there is a real fire present. Because all detectors have their own spectral response, each manufacturer has their own simulators.
Spectrex offers three type of simulators that can be used to test the complete range of current and older models of Spectrex. All Spectrex simulators are Atex zone 1 approved and can therefore be used in the same hazardous area as the flame detectors them selves.
