Fire Rated Windows
A fire rated window is a specially engineered glazing system designed to resist fire, smoke and heat for a certified period of time, such as 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. It is not just a pane of glass, but a complete system that includes fire rated glass, a fire rated aluminium frame, seals and hardware that have all been tested together.
Fire rated windows are designed to maintain integrity during a fire, preventing the passage of flames and hot gases, and in the case of EI rated systems, limiting the transfer of dangerous heat to the non-fire side. This helps to contain fire within compartments, protect escape routes and allow occupants vital time to evacuate safely.
Fire rated windows allow buildings to remain light and open without compromising fire safety. They are commonly used in corridors, stairwells, partitions and external elevations where visibility and natural light are required alongside strict compliance with fire safety regulations.
